I Need Your Help; and Random Thoughts

First, my random thoughts, in asterisk form:

* I joined a running group!! Thanks to Lisa http://watchlisarun.blogspot.com/ I went to the website http://www.meetup.com/ and found a running group with 300+ members.
* I finally added up my mileage for 2009. No, I'm not technologically smart enough to create a spreadsheet or whatever it's called to automatically track it. I ran a total of 826.41 miles. Not bad considering I didn't run for 3 weeks in January.
* I practiced yoga twice this past week. I bought a DVD, "Essential Yoga For Inflexible People" by Maggie Rhoades for $7.99 on Amazon. I like it. It's a keeper.
* 4 weeks to go until the New York City Half Marathon
* I last ran three weeks ago. YIKES (See asterisk above)
* I'm still doing my stretches, and I'm feeling a little more "Gumby-like"
* Three weeks to go until we "spring ahead."
* If I win the lottery, I'm hiring a Personal Trainer, or at least someone to stretch the heck out of my legs
* I have a crush on Hannah Storm of ESPN. To my wife: as you know, Hannah's happily married and so am I. At least I think we still are, right dear?!

* Welcome to my newest Follower "Bootchez."
* I was tagged with the "Sunshine Award" sometime this past week by Stephanie. http://50marathonchallenge.blogspot.com I'm sure most of you have already been tagged with this award. If not, please feel free to copy and paste it to your blogs and award it to yourself. The award is at the top of my blog. I'm supposed to award it to 12 of my loyal followers who put a smile on my face with their blogs. Well, the 20 of you who responded to my last post may tag yourselves. I never was good at following directions anyhow.
* My wife bought me a Hooker shirt...as in Thomas Hooker Brewing Company. We were there this past Friday night. No, that's not me wearing the shirt.

* I FINALLY figured out how to put a link in my blog that you can click on and go to.
* I'm strongly disliking ("hate" is too strong of a word) a few running blogs that are out there. Why? Because they shamelessly promote way too many products and look like a blogging billboard instead of a running blog. Matter of fact, I stopped following and commenting on one particular blog for that reason. If you want to promote a product, that's fine. I myself have recommended certain products in the past year. However, my recommendations are based on my honest opinion without any compensation or pressure from the manufacturer. There's some other things I could say, but I won't.
* By the way, I'm not referring to any of you. So relax!

OK, I need your help, please. I want everyone to give me one word, or a phrase, that best describes how you feel about running; or that describes running in general. For example, I've already written down determination, inspiring, and a few other words. So tell me a phrase, word, words, or whatever comes to mind when you think about yourself or another runner. I'm not sure if I'm explaining this well, but hopefully you get the idea. I'll explain why I want your word(s) and phrases in about a week. I'll keep you in suspense for now.

"Self-worth"

That's a cool little experiment, I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with with! :)

Thank you for becoming a follower! I am gladly returning the favor!

Even funnier...I teach in a school for students with autism and other disabilities haha! I do have a couple of male followers so I try not to get to be girly in content, despite all the pink that is :)

My running word would have to be: passion.

Good for you doing yoga! I keep trying to get my dad to come with me to yoga and he absolutely refuses.

Enjoy the running club...they can be great support and motivation!

Joy, simple joy.

OK, Rick you rock and I just love your consistent stance on not advertising and retaining and maintaining the promotion of the "soul" of running rather than products, teams...etc.
Nice Hooker shirt...

Cleansing.

as in soul cleansing, that runner high feeling... but that would have been 2 words or actually more of a sentence I suppose. Maybe I can't follow directions either. Love the random thoughts.

I loved my running group in SLC. It was really motivating to have a "group" to run with. Good for you for joining one.

Empowering! After I ran my first marathon, I felt so great! I knew I could accomplish anything I set my heart on!

I have heard of High Road Schools...although, I am not too familiar with their program. I used to tutor a student who went there.

Can't wait to see this word project!

lazy

(it's true... haha).

i suppose i could also say

dedication and/or give-and-take

also i completely agree. i feel similarly about giveaways lately. i don't even enter a lot of them anymore b/c of all the hoops you gotta jump through. go here and find this and then click here and do this and then come back and write a dissertation about line #5 on the 4th website you looked at....

I've got to second the word "powerful" . . . yeah, that about sums it up.

I completely agree with the shameless promotions, and am beginning to get a little tired of the endless giveaways, yup, click here, facebook there, blech. Having said that, I still enter the ones that I want to win, but somewhere there is a line between Cool and Not Another One.

I hope you continue enjoying the yoga. I'm about 2.5 months into a regular practice and . . . things . . . are starting to happen. Good things!

Seriously? 300 members in the running group? Why can't I find one like that?

So seriously, glad you found a group. What are their dues out of curiousity?

Nice job on the mileage for 2009.

So happy you are still doing your stretches. Keep doing them even after you feel better.

My word? Determied, motivated and strong.

Got your note. I'm onto you, now, Marathonman. And if I can "swim" 400 yards, anybody can. Swimming held me back from tris for so long. But now I have NO FEAR!!!!

Right now the word I have for running is ... missed. But I'll be back at it as soon as I get this ortho boot off!

Congrats on joining a running group; it makes all the difference in the world.

One word...this is tough.....I would say "empowering" (and yes, I know someone already used it and I am a big fat copy cat:-))

Of course you'll be running soon. Didn't Nuno say you could run the half? Just don't rush it. Trust me on that, k? And do your exercises and take it easy when you do run. That way you can guarantee that you can keep running after the half.

Running is my "freedom" and "independence" It means that I'm no longer controlled by the seizures.

I missed this post before (how dar you blog whilst I am away!) but I want to agree 34298722% with strongly disliking some blogs. I have a myriad of reasons unfortunately, but ridiculous promotion is high on my list!
